This is my mama’s recipe for home made baby wipes. She’s been using it since I was little, so it’s 26 years old. I’d consider that tried and true! She always said we never had any diaper rashes, and she used them on all three of us kids. Back then there wasn’t “select a size” paper towels, so she would have my dad saw the entire roll of paper towels in half and then fold them. Now we have the smaller sheets so it saves me the extra step. On to the recipe! Start with a good quality paper towel, TRUST ME when I say not to use super cheap paper towels. They just disintegrate and it’s not a pretty sight. Use a “select a size” roll to get the right size wipe. Now take that roll and tear every sheet off the roll the stack them. Like this :

ImageNow take each sheet and fold them in half, the fat way. Like this :

Fold all the sheets and stack them. Now, stuff them like the picture into your wipes container. If you are re-using a wipes tub, that’s what I do, they won’t lay flat. They sort of come up the sides but it won’t make any kind of difference.

The magical solution starts with baby shampoo/wash, essential oil and water. In a large microwave safe and pourable container mix :

2 cups of warm water

1 teaspoon baby shampoo (or any baby shampoo/wash you have)

5-8 drops tea tree oil

Combine and stir. Microwave for one minute and stir again. Now pour over your paper towel wipes in the tubs. It should be plenty of liquid to soak ALL the folded towel wipes. If you wanted you could totally add one or two drops of an essential oil such as lavender. But make sure not to add more than that because they are very concentrated! This is also an excellent cloth wipe solution. I have made this with cloth wipes many times. Have a baby or child with super sensitive skin or eczema? I do. So I use an unscented baby shampoo/wash. I have found since adding in the tea tree oil, we no longer have to battle diaper yeast.

I hope this works as well for you as it has for our family! Let me know! xoxo!
